Shrewsbury Elevates West Nile Virus Precautions Amid Regional Risk
SHREWSBURY — The Central Massachusetts Regional Health Department is urging Shrewsbury residents to step up personal protection against mosquitoes, warning Wednesday that the regional risk of West Nile virus has increased. Town officials also flagged continuing preparations for the fall election season and a batch of commercial-outlet reporting on a water main repair and a Shrewsbury High School principal's role in a statewide sports decision.

The regional health department's advisory asked residents to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk hours, and drain standing water around their homes to reduce mosquito breeding sites, citing an elevated regional risk of West Nile virus.
Separately, the town Clerk's office is continuing preparations for in-person early voting, with testing of voting equipment scheduled to continue Friday, Aug. 21, at 9 a.m. at the Richard D. Carney Municipal Office Building on Maple Avenue.
