Opioid Task Force Announces Grant Funding, Advisory Board Openings

SHREWSBURY — The Regional Opioid Task Force is inviting Shrewsbury residents to apply for a new addiction-treatment grant program and to join its volunteer advisory board, according to a notice posted Thursday by the town. Elsewhere, the Select Board's hearing on renaming a portion of the town's Recreation building draws closer, and public-health officials continue urging residents to watch for invasive pests.

TOWN HALL

The Regional Opioid Task Force announced a Notification of Funding Opportunity for the Providing Access, Treatment, and Hope grant program, alongside an open call for Community Advisory Members to join the task force, the town's News Flash reported Thursday. Residents interested in either opportunity can find details through the town's CivicAlerts page.

The Central Massachusetts Regional Health Department is also asking residents to help track an invasive species: anyone who spots a Spotted Lanternfly in town is encouraged to report it through the state Department of Agricultural Resources' online portal. Separately, the health department and the Central Mass. Mosquito Control Project have set a "save the date" for an educational session on mosquitoes, planned for September 9 at the Shrewsbury Public Library.

As a reminder, the Select Board's hearing on naming a portion of the Ray Stone Post, home of Shrewsbury Recreation at 835 Main Street, after longtime staffer Dawn Shannon is set for 7:05 p.m. on August 25.
