Shrewsbury Council on Aging Approves Nearly $5,000 Craft Room Furniture Purchase

SHREWSBURY — April 8, 2026 — Shrewsbury's Council on Aging board voted unanimously to spend just under $5,000 on new craft room furniture, splitting the cost between the formula grant and the gift account. Director Holly Luke told the board the craft room's heavy industrial tables had deteriorated — one broke and was removed, another required repair — and that the room was the only space not upgraded during a prior furniture initiative. The board approved drawing $2,500 from each account for five new tables with locking casters. In other business, Luke warned that a $25,000 Massachusetts Council on Aging transportation grant is down to $5,892.95 and is expected to run out by end of April, cutting off extended-hours ride service unless a pending $15,000 AARP Community Grant Challenge application — decision expected in May — comes through. Luke also announced "Talk of the Town," a new monthly last-Friday series pairing town department heads with Senior Center residents over breakfast; all slots filled within three hours, with some departments requesting 2027 dates.
