Shrewsbury Council on Aging explained how seniors can use the town's free van service. Transportation Coordinator Cynthia Willis detailed how residents 60 and over and disabled residents can book rides through Paratransit Brokers Service Transit Management, a WRTA division, at 508-752-9283. Willis said fares are "free until further notice," but riders who accumulate no-shows within a 30-day period "can jeopardize your service." Riders get a 20-minute pickup window via automated call and must wait in sight of the vehicle; drivers wait only five minutes before moving on.
Drivers assist only from front door to front door and stay within 40 feet of the vehicle "due to safety concerns." Companions and personal care assistants may ride along if disclosed when booking.
