Council on Aging · Meeting of August 12, 2026

Shrewsbury's Council on Aging Board reviewed a $138,224 FY27 Formula Grant allocation and new special-trip registration rules at its August 12 meeting. Council on Aging Director Hollie Lucht said the grant, unchanged from FY26 at $16 per resident age 60-plus under the 2020 Census, funds core programs including $15,000 for Tuesday Night Dinners and $25,000 for the Expanded Transportation Program, kept alive after a state transportation grant application was denied. Transportation Coordinator Cynthia Willis said July 1 policy changes now limit residents to one paid trip at initial sign-up, calling the change an effort "to make it fairer to more residents." Fiscal 2026 saw 5,488 WRTA van trips and 2,456 COA special-trip rides.

The board also heard that the Friends of the Shrewsbury Senior Center have not committed to FY27 collaboration opportunities the COA proposed, and approved June minutes and adjournment unanimously.
