SHREWSBURY -- May 1, 2026, Attorney Nicole Torres made her pitch for a Shrewsbury School Committee seat at a May 1 candidate forum, citing her legal background as central to handling the district's pending high school expansion. Torres, a residential real estate attorney and small business owner whose two children attend Spring Street School, argued she is uniquely prepared to navigate Massachusetts School Building Authority contracts and maximize state reimbursement for Shrewsbury taxpayers. She acknowledged an existing gap between Superintendent's proposed budget and expected appropriations, calling for collaborative rather than adversarial negotiations. Torres also stressed the importance of a stable committee to guide incoming Superintendent Dr. Ostrander, who takes over July 1 following nearly two decades under Dr. Sawyer. Torres said she has earned endorsements from all five current School Committee members ahead of the May 5 election.
