Shrewsbury School Committee Unanimously Appoints Assistant Superintendent for Well-Being
SHREWSBURY — July 8, 2026 — Shrewsbury School Committee unanimously approves new assistant superintendent after 42-applicant search. The committee voted at its July 8 special meeting to appoint Brian Callahan as Assistant Superintendent for Well-Being and Community Systems, effective July 26, following a recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Ostrander. Callahan brings 30 years of educational experience, including 14 years as principal of Westborough High School, and was selected through a multi-stage process that included focus groups, a performance task, committee interviews, and an on-site district visit. Ostrander said the search committee "consistently" found Callahan distinguished himself across five core leadership dimensions, and one committee member said the hiring process proved the district found "that unicorn" they had worried might not exist. The committee also unanimously appointed member Nicole Torres as its representative to the Shrewsbury Master Plan Steering Committee, with her real estate law background cited as particularly relevant to the land-use-focused planning body.
