SELCO board approves 25-year Vineyard Wind deal
Other Committee · Meeting of September 22, 2026
SHREWSBURY — SELCO board votes 5-0 to lock in a 25-year Vineyard Wind power deal. Director of Finance and Administration Jim Zocco reported first-quarter electric expenses ran 12 percent above plan after a cold snap drove fuel costs up $1.3 million year over year, though second-quarter net income hit $1.9 million, 56 percent above plan. The board elected Bob Holland chair, Mike Ruffalo vice chair and Tony Trippi secretary, then authorized the general manager to sign a 25-year agreement for roughly 20 percent of the built Vineyard Wind project's output at a fixed price.
Staff reported a substation transformer failure was patched with a spare unit borrowed from National Grid plus a $1.5 million insurance payout, fiber now covers 69 percent of broadband customers, and a Dean Park public Wi-Fi pilot is expected before winter. "We had an extremely cold December through February," Zocco said of the cost spike.
