Shrewsbury student-athlete Drew O'Connell earns statewide scholar-athlete honors, and state lawmakers secure funding for athletic lights at Dean Park and the Coolidge Pickleball Court.

HIGH SCHOOL Boston College-bound Drew O'Connell was recognized among the state's top scholar-athletes by the Boston Globe, cited for achievements in athletics, academics and community service, according to Patch, in a story published July 13.

TOWN State Sen. Michael Moore and state Rep. Hannah Kane briefed the Select Board on the fiscal year 2027 state budget at the board's July 14 meeting. Among the local earmarks the pair described was $30,000 "to upgrade the athletic lights at Dean Park and the Coolidge Pickleball Court." The funding was part of a broader package of local earmarks for Shrewsbury that also included money for the Shrewsbury Police, Veterans Inc., a firefighter cancer screening program, the CASA program and Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services.
