Other Committee · Meeting of October 27, 2026

SHREWSBURY — The SELCO Commission voted to end a decade-old solar rate exemption and add electric vehicles to net metering eligibility. Roughly 35 to 40 residential solar customers who have been exempt from a distribution standby charge since 2016 will begin paying it, about $30 a month, with February bills reflecting January usage. Staff member Patrick Collins, the Integrated Resources Manager, said the charge is based on $4.50 per kilowatt of installed capacity.

The revised policy also lets customers enroll electric vehicles and bi-directional chargers in the Connected Homes incentive program. The commission separately kept its generation and transmission adjustment at 1.4 cents per kilowatt hour through winter and approved, by roll call vote, authorizing the general manager to sign a purchase power agreement for an onshore wind project from Maine covering nearly 2 to 2.5 percent of overall demand.
