Zoning Board denies food truck variance at Main Street property

Shrewsbury Zoning Board of Appeals denied a variance for food trucks at 440 Main Street. Acting Chair Ann Refolo and board members David Moore, Meghan Vincent, Fran Mannella, and Nick Mordarski heard the continued application from applicant Teresa Goulette on behalf of Trinity Church, which sought permission to operate three food trucks two hours per week as a fundraiser generating up to $6,000 annually for the church. A 16-household opposition petition and three abutters testified against the proposal, citing traffic safety and an improper basis for commercial use in a Residence A district.
The Board voted 5-0 to deny, with the majority finding no valid property hardship to justify the variance.
