Water Main Break Shuts Down Main Street Near I-290

A water main break closed a stretch of Main Street near the Interstate 290 interchange overnight, sending Shrewsbury Water Department crews scrambling to make repairs before the Wednesday morning commute.

The Water Department confirmed it is repairing a main break in the area of 177 Main Street, with the roadway closed near the I-290 area while crews work. The town has not said when the closure will lift.

Separately, the Shrewsbury Council on Aging released its September 2026 newsletter, its regular roundup of senior programs and services for the coming month.

At the library, Wednesday brings a full slate of programming, including Wiggle Words and Giant Board Games at 10 a.m. and a Crazy 8s Math Club session at 11:15 a.m. On Saturday, Aug. 29, Big Blue Swim School hosts Family Fun Day at noon.
