Shrewsbury Library Trustees Reorganize and Approve Fiscal Year 2027 Director Goals
SHREWSBURY — May 26, 2026 — Shrewsbury Library Trustees reorganize, approve director's goals, and table a child safety policy revision to June. The board unanimously re-elected Lisa Powers as Chair in absentia and retained April Jones-Prince as Vice Chair and Secretary at its May 26 meeting, completing subcommittee appointments in under five minutes. Library Director Priya reported April figures of more than 25,000 visitors, 30,000 items loaned, and 126 programs with 3,400 attendees. Trustees reviewed a first-ever four-year expenditure plan for the library's roughly $400,000 state aid reserve — grown from $51,000 in 2019 — and directed the Finance Committee to propose a minimum reserve floor at the June meeting. A Sunday staffing proposal that would cost approximately $15,000 more than the current model was discussed but not voted on after the town's HR department advised against the overtime approach. A revised child safety policy that would allow grades five through eight unsupervised access for up to two hours, with grades five and six barred on half days and Fridays, was tabled to June 23 pending clarification from Sherwood staff member Kaylee on transition strategies and accountability measures.
