Shrewsbury Affordable Housing Trust advances rental assistance program

Affordable Housing Trust · Meeting of May 14, 2026

Shrewsbury Affordable Housing Trust moves $150,000 rental assistance program to Town Meeting. The board prepared the program for Article 27 on the May 18 Annual Town Meeting warrant, providing $500 each to approximately 25 cost-burdened households earning more than half their income toward rent, with funding split 75-25 between Community Preservation Committee reserves ($112,500) and Trust funds ($37,500). The Trust also discussed finalizing a Habitat for Humanity contract to repair homes for low-income and senior residents, serving a maximum of six households through July 2027.

Planning staff simultaneously initiated pre-development analysis of 210 N. Quinsigamond Avenue for potential affordable housing.
