SHREWSBURY — Select Board workshop reviews property tax relief and financial forecast through 2031. Principal Assessor Ruth Anderson presented existing exemption programs and outlined home-rule alternatives ahead of the May 2026 Annual Town Meeting. Finance Director Kevin J.
Mizikar reported that approximately 17.5 new positions requested across departments total roughly $1.4 million, exceeding available funding by approximately $1 million. Ongoing cost pressures include inflationary increases in utilities and software subscriptions, with an 11 percent jump in Assessor's Office software expenses and approximately 5 percent increases in major municipal systems. The administration aims to present a balanced budget and initial fiscal projection by the third week of February.
