SELCO Commission approves $5M transformer expense, survey results

SELCO Commission · Meeting of February 24, 2026

SHREWSBURY — SELCO Commission approves OIG procurement procedures, authorizes General Manager for construction agreement. The Commission unanimously endorsed the measures and reviewed a February 9 electrical outage that will cost the utility approximately $5 million in repair and transformer procurement expenses. The substation transformer failure at Centech, though only 20 percent into its service life, had passed its warranty window; the lead time for a new manufactured transformer is roughly four years.

The Commission also received a cable satisfaction survey showing 690 completed responses, exceeding the goal of 400 with a margin of error of 3.61 percent.
