Library director praised for growth and leadership in trustee evaluation

Board of Library Trustees · Meeting of April 21, 2026

SHREWSBURY — Library director Priya Rathnam receives strong trustee evaluation for leadership and innovation. The Board of Library Trustees Personnel Subcommittee commended new programs including a Makerspace, Storywalk at Lake Ave. Park, and the podcast Beyond Books.

The Town's approval of a new Adult Services position will allow Rathnam to delegate additional responsibilities. The subcommittee noted that staff retention challenges stem from salary, retirements, and relocation rather than library culture, with professional development limited primarily by scheduling and coverage constraints rather than funding.
