SHREWSBURY — State Rep. Hannah Kane won the Republican nomination Tuesday to keep representing Shrewsbury in the 11th Worcester District, setting up a fall campaign to retain her Beacon Hill seat, while the town's mosquito control program readies a targeted evening spray this week after officials flagged rising regional West Nile virus risk.

Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project crews will conduct a targeted truck-mounted spray application the evening of Thursday, September 3, in response to an increased regional risk of West Nile virus, according to a News Flash alert posted by the town Tuesday. The targeted application is separate from the mosquito project's routine weekly visits, which continue through September.
