DEIB Committee Elects New Chair, Vice Chair
Other Committee 2026-09-14 Part 2 · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Shrewsbury's DEIB Committee elected new leaders and weighed a second push for a rejected inclusion policy. Members unanimously elected Samantha Golden as chair and Luis Rodriguez as vice chair, replacing former chair Dr. Flosen, who resigned earlier this year.
Rodriguez told the committee the Select Board voted 3-2 on August 25 against the panel's welcoming communities recommendation, with members Conlin and Garcia in favor and members Flint, Richards and Sharma opposed. He said the town manager had suggested an alternative resolution instead, and called Sharma's "no" vote disappointing given Sharma "is also an immigrant." The committee also agreed to pursue a Shrewsbury Cultural Council grant due October 14, plan 2026-2027 events including an interfaith gathering and an "I Voted" sticker contest with Shrewsbury High School, and respond to resident Janice Machado's letter asking how to help after the policy's defeat.
