Shrewsbury Council on Aging Board approved April minutes unanimously and reviewed five financial accounts with combined balances near $52,177. Director Hollie Lucht presented a new initiative using General Fund "Dues and Memberships" dollars to purchase yearly passes to local organizations including Tower Hill Botanic and Southwick Zoo for seniors at a twenty-dollar deposit. The board heard that three new MCOA grants were submitted yesterday: a Transportation Expansion Grant, an eight-thousand-dollar Outreach Grant for household mailings, and a thirteen-thousand-dollar Nutrition Grant to fund monthly Tuesday social meals for fifty people at five dollars per meal.
The AARP expansion grant application was rejected for the sixth year in a row. A new Special Trip Reservation Policy takes effect in June, requiring individuals to register in person with identification on the first day of sign-ups to address fairness concerns on popular trips.
