Board of Health adopts mandatory recycling and solid waste rules

SHREWSBURY — Board of Health votes unanimously to adopt new mandatory recycling regulations. The three-member board, chaired by Dr. George Abraham with members Emily Walker and Karyn Rossacci, approved comprehensive regulations governing mandatory recycling and the permitting and operation of municipal and commercial solid waste and recycling collection, with an effective date of June 1, 2026.

In a related unanimous vote, the board appointed Gosia Stolarska, Rubbish and Recycling Program Manager, to serve as an agent of the Board of Health to enforce the regulations. The adoption followed an April 23 public hearing and consideration of subsequent public comment.
